As I sead I am not sure about the redistributing part. Since debian does
distribute non-us CDs I assume the following: The GPL states that if by
any reason condituions are imposed on you that contradict the GPL and
there is no chance to distribute the software while satisfying those
conditions and the GPL you are not allowed to distribute. Now since the
conditions that make debian distribute non-us cds are not put on them
outside the us they seem to be able to distribute those cds in those
countries without contradicting the GPL.
That would in conclusion mean that you could set up a package with the
spring-loaded-folders patch and distribute it in belgium - in case the
patent is not valid there. It would IMHO even enable debian or redhat to
do so...
Still I vote for having someone from the foundation contact apple about
a license. As someone before mentioned they took something from the
opensource communtiy, so they should give something back. And it still
might give them some publicity about a feature I think nobody outside
the UI-design-world did really recognize...
