This seems like an ok change to me, the constantly-changing load
behavior annoys me too.  Two minor comments: you should get rid of the
display_pending_timeout_id struct member, and in the
queue_pending_files() function you should add braces back to the if
statement.

Alex, do you have any problem with this?
