Are you using gnome 2.4 or 2.6?

It depends on what you're testing, and what other versions you have
installed. If you want a full cvs install of a different version of
gnome than whats installed, use jhbuild. For just testing some specific
app (such as nautilus), running it in a test-dir works most of the time.
