file-type-detection :)

hi,

today i clicken on OOo_1.1.0_LinuxIntel_sdk.tar.gz
( the sdk for openoffice-1.1.0) in nautilus-2.5.8,

and got:
Cannot open OOo_1.1.0_LinuxIntel_sdk.tar.gz.The filename
"OOo_1.1.0_LinuxIntel_sdk.tar.gz" indicates that this file is of type
"Tar archive (Gzip-compressed)". The contents of the file indicate that
the file is of type "TeX font metrics". If you open this file, the file
might present a security risk to your system.

i understand that trying to detect the filetype from the content can
fail sometimes, but TEX-FONT-METRICS? :))

another nice one is about the openoffice-1.1.0 sources (apparently
nautilus doesn't like openoffice):
Cannot open OOo_1.1.0_source.tar.bz2.
The filename "OOo_1.1.0_source.tar.bz2" indicates that this file is of
type "Tar archive (Bzip2-compressed)". The contents of the file indicate
that the file is of type "Bzip2 compressed file". If you open this file,
the file might present a security risk to your system.

now i don't understand. but no problem, nautilus gives me a hint what to
do:

To open the file, rename the file to the correct extension for "Bzip2
compressed file", then open the file normally.
:))

now what is the correct extension for a bzip2 file?

gabor

p.s: i understant that these should (maybe) go into bugzilla, but they
were so funny i wanted to share them :)
