Adding emblems from an external script/app to dirs/folders

Dear all,

Is there a way to dynamically (i.e. upon adding any open nautilus window
that is displaying the particular file/folder should be updated) add
emblems to files or folders from an external script ? 

I have read the archives and although there are threads discussing
this , there is no real solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
