I think you should use a library instead of executing the totem
process. Looking the various libs that read music tags i found that
TagLib Audio Meta-Data Library [1] is used by gstreamer-plugins-good
and, since totem,  AFAIK uses gstreamer to retrieve the tags you do
not add any other dependency.
