Truncating long file names - Asking attention for a 6 year open bug

Hey,

I can very well imagine that old bugs don't get looked at as much as
new bugs so that's why i'm asking the attention to take a look at this
[1] 6 year old bug which should now be possible to fix because of
changes in pango.

Just in a side note..
How is it even possible that a feature so simple can take 6 years to
get made assuming it finally will get made.
