ORBit and JacORB Problem

I'm trying to acces an object serverd by JacORB.  I get a null pointer
when executing
CORBA_ORB_string_to_object(orb, ior, &ev);

This problem does not occur when I run a JacORB Client using the same
IOR.

Does anyone PLEASE have any clues?
