Orbit persistent object Query

Hi,
  I would like to know if orbit supports
persistent objects.If yes then whether there
is one perticular daemon running on the system
to which all the running servers implementing
persistent objects register there exe's paths?
  Whether the server and daemon communication
takes place via sockets and is there a dedicated port where the daemon always listens?
  If the scenario is as above,then Obect reference exported will contain the IP address 
of the daemon.
  It seems all confusing because then daemon has to forward request to the server.
