Re: Orca testing...

Hey Cody:

I'm not a Fedora Core 5 beta tester or user, so I'm not sure. We've been developing Orca on Solaris and Ubuntu lately and are having relatively good success with the GNOME 2.14 bits, which I believe will be making their way into the soon-to-be-released updates of Ubuntu and Fedora.
Orca can currently talk to emacspeak and gnome-speech drivers for
speech. I know there is an eloquence driver for gnome-speech, but I
don't have the eloquence SDK, so I've never been able to verify that
the eloquence driver works or not. If you have the eloquence SDK and
are willing to hack, you might try building gnome-speech with the
eloquence driver and then checking to see if it actually works using
the gnome-speech /usr/bin/test-speech application. If the eloquence
driver works, then it should work fine with Orca.
Please remember that Orca is still pre-beta. We have a lot of work
to do with it, including the development of a configuration GUI to
make it easier to set the various settable parameters, including
selection of the speech system.
Hope this helps,

Will
