Hi Lawrence,
There is a web page somewhere that describes this message. Python needs
to be told how to interpret these characters.
chnames.py in trunk has the line
# -*- coding: utf-8 -*-
at the top of the file. Adding this line in should make things work for
you.
Hth,

Hi all,
I've just installed gnome, via slacky, on a slackware system. When I run
orca, I get a syntax error.
"SyntaxError: Non-ASCII character '\xc2' in file
/usr/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/orca/chnames.py on line 116, but no
encoding declared;"
I looked at that line 116 and find
# Translators: this is the spoken word for the character '<A| ' (U+003e)
Anybody seen this before?
Many thanks.
Larry
