I have the same problem with Firefox after upgrading the at-spi. Now, orca thinks webpages are treeviews with html in them, as in "html content treeview level 1".
So far, this is the only problem I have had after the upgrade. Everything else seems to still be working fine. I use evolution, so can't speak for Thunderbird.

This morning there was an update for at-spi. I went ahead and let it
upgrade. But like others on the list I am seeing regressions as well.
Most importantly, as stated before Firefox is not allowing you to move
by headings. I was planning on setting up my Wind Mobile 6 device today
but due to the fact that I can't read down the page not just headings
but a few lines of text and then Orca doesn't say anything. It seems to
be doing fine in Evolution. I haven't tested Pidgin yet and I don't use
Thunderbird so I can't speak to that. I thought I would try to upgrade
Orca and see what happens via svn. But I am uncertain if I can do that
today.
I have also tried using the caret cursor with no luck. Here's what my
firefox version of the script is:
Script Info
Script Name=firefox
Module=orca.default
Application name=firefox
Toolkit unknown
Version Unknown
This is what it shows me in Firefox.
I would also like to propose that a change of keystrokes for reading the
script be changed to:
Orca+Control+Q
This is similiar in a way to Jaws but not exactly. See in Jaws it's
Insert+Q. but this would make it much easier I think to remember at
least for me it is. The key bind that was prevfiously set was too much
for me to remember.
