Hi Mike:
For most objects, Orca will attempt to perform the default accessible
action for the object (if an action exists). If it doesn't Orca will
move the pointer to the object and perform a click.
For text areas, Orca merely tells the text object to move the caret and
does not move the pointer.

Hello Zack,
My comments on clicking not working in my latest message (the one in
response to Joanie's message) was to do with Braille cursor routing
keys, clicking from a keyboard (numpad / ) works as I would expect. I
believe the problem with Braille display routing keys is that they are
not directly connected to do route mouse pointer and left click, could
someone confirm whether I have understood correctly how orca's Braille
routing keys work?
Thanks for confirming that left clicking in firefox should position the
caret if the object doesn't respond to left click events.

Hi Mike,
It's my understanding that visually speaking, clicking the mouse on a
certain part of a webpage does route the cursor to that spot. If it's a
link, since the web operates on a single-click basis, that activates it.
I may be somewhat mistaken here. Nevertheless, I agree with you: some
provision should be made for onClick events. I notice many websites
lately which depend rather heavily on them.
Best,
Zack.

Yes that works and for the example I was thinking of it makes the
website work in a fairly usable way (once you realise what parts can
be clicked) where as other screen readers the website is almost
point the mouse and hope. However I notice something which may want
some attention (unsure whether it is really a bug or an enhancement
as its something which doesn't work as naturally as I would expect
but isn't necessarily "wrong" in the way orca has been planned to
work up to now).
Anyway what is the problem, I would expect that using the cursor
routing keys on my Braille display should perform a mouse click at
the point where the cursor routing key relates. When I try this orca
only positions the caret there (unless it is a link). Under my idea
of how cursor routing keys work, if nothing should happen normally
on a click the cursor should be routed there (may be orca still
passes firefox a mouse click and firefox does the cursor routing).

Have you tried to route the mouse pointer to the caret location and
then
perform a left mouse click?

Could I make this more general, could we have a way of clicking mouse
buttons at the caret position in firefox?

Hello, Is there any work going on for making orca access the
clickable links in ff? There are many sites which use these links
extensively. Orca just says "text" for all such links not allowing
to click them.
Thanks,
Aruni.
