Hey all.
For the past week or so I've been working on Orca's support for
WebKitGtk with a focus on Epiphany, and I plan to continue to do so over
the the weeks to come with an emphasis on:
* Finishing the label inference support for WebKitGtk -- i.e. guessing
labels for unlabeled form content which, alas, we continue to see far
too often from content creators. The first bits were just committed,
and I hope to commit some more tomorrow.
* Adding braille support for lines with embedded objects. That way if
you arrow to a line with, say, text and form fields, Orca will present
the full line. The speech support for this was added the other day.
* Evaluating all of the major ARIA toolkits with WebKitGtk, fixing Orca
bugs, filing WebKitGtk bugs, etc.
* Fixing any other bugs I find along the way.
I continue to be pleased at the performance of WebKitGtk with Orca, the
fact that text selection JustWorks(tm), the fact that we do not have to
implement our own caret navigation for WebKitGtk content, and so on, and
so forth. If we could just flush out the issues that remain, I think we
can have a really awesome solution for *nix web access.
Which brings me to the following request for your help: If you are a
user, it would be extremely helpful if you could be testing with the
latest Epiphany, WebKitGtk, and Orca from master and file reports as
Michael Whapples began doing. If you are a distro package maintainer, it
would be great if you could be packaging the latest of the above items
so that users can more easily do the requested testing.
Thanks in advance for your help! Take care.
