Hi.
I solved a similar  problem in my arch box.

1. Patch and recompile pidgin 2.10.7. The patch was found in the 
following discussion:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=162220

2. After install the new package I removed my .purple directory,  launch 
pidgin and recreate my accounts.

Until now I found no problems.

Works for arch, I don't know if it works for other distros.
