Hi,
talk to your teachers and use the Debian net installer instead.
Tell them that it is a minimal iso that you can have speech from the
beginning.
When it is booting push S and enter, or arrow down in the menu that
first comes up and hit enter on the last item for speech.
That way you can prove you can instal and you can do it supported by speech.
Good luck
Rob

Is there any chance you could use the desktop edition, but install
whatever software you need for your school work? After all, any
software that will run on ubuntu server will run on ubuntu desktop. I
don't know how easy server edition is to install, but unless it comes
with a desktop it's likely inaccessible unless speakup is included,
which is unlikely.
Thanks

That's just it. I'm trying to install it, so it's got nothing there just
yet. On the desktop edition, I can make Orca show up no problem at all
before I start the install process. Not so much on the server edition.

hi
Just out of curiosity, does the ubuntu server edition have a desktop
installed? If so, what desktop is it? If unity, all you're supposed
to need
to do is press alt+windows+s to get orca to speak. After that orca
should
start automatically. If this fails, press alt+f2 to open up the run
dialog
and type orca --replace. If this still doesn't work I'll have to dig
further, although orca --replace is supposed to cause orca to start,
killing
any other orca procs that may be running but hung.
Thanks

Hello,
I'm required to have Ubuntu 15.04 server edition running in a VM for
school assignments. However, the usual tricks for getting Orca running
don't appear to be playing nice. Is there a means and method of doing
so, or will I need to do something convoluted that involves first
booting to the desktop edition ISO? I can do that if I need to, but if
there's an easier way I'm all for it. Thanks for the help either way.
