Hello,
You can also use corebird. It works, but you have to press enter on the
tweets to interact as Orca does not see the interactions on the main
screen. Mensions, dms, replies are all accessible using alt threw 1-7 or
you can use the radio buttons to cycle between the screens.

I can't comment on Pidgin (I've used it, but not with Twitter accounts).
However, if you're an Emacs user, you can interact with Twitter directly from
an Emacs buffer using one of the available extensions.
