I've not tested myself the full procedure.

1) Download the following tarball : 
http://pub.mate-desktop.org/releases/1.19/atril-1.19.5.tar.xz
2) Extract it
3) Move from the terminal into the extracted folder
4) Install the required dependencies : sudo apt-get build-dep atril
5) Compile it and install it into /usr/local/bin : ./autogen.sh && make 
&& sudo make install
7) Launch atril and try it

To remove it:
1) Go to the extracted folder
2) Execute the following command: sudo make uninstall
