Re: [orca-list] user agent spoofing in firefox with skype and orca

Somewhat helpful, but far from efficient, and I can't find some contacts,
(can't remember if they are ones missing a distinct handle, i.e. just a phone
number), is the ocr pkg a list member wrote a couple orf yhears ago.
It takes this old dual core laptop with plenty of RAM maybe 3 secs to process
a typical skype screen if my memory serves me, and then much of the screen
including controls is understandable, other bits requuire a bit of imagination
and or guess wok...lol.
The program is called ocrdesktop. It is available for arch-linux in the AUR.
Looks like I'm running the stable version, 1.01-1, and there is a git version
as well as ocrdesktop-git.
I don't know if there is anything new and or interesting in the dev -git
version or not, but think I had it installed at one time.
I spent quite a lot of time and a couple of days worth of curses and general
purpose explitives messing with skype for linux a couple months ago.
Chrome was much nicer to use than the skyhpe app, and lst I checked firefox
was not supported at allyet although most of it seemed close, (or did they
finally get firefox and skype playing nice last time I tried???).
Quite a pain anyway, so sad that when the skype program was actually working
pretty nicely with orca MS had to force us all through the extrusion mold for
computer dummies. Why they found it so important to have the app look the same
on all platforms that they got rid of functionality, or hid it from me anyway,
checked on windows as well, and make the download and installation much
larger than it was beats me. Basically it seems we have to download much of a
chrome browserr crippled to only do skype stuph.

I have a lot on my plate, but will look for U on IRC sometime in the next few
weeks to see if we can teach each other anything that might make this less of
a nightmare/I'd drop it altogether, but it is still practical when away from
one's own hardware, e.g. in some cyber-café or library. I guess the latter
probably block skype most of the time, but...

I tried solving this myself but i'm stuck. someone suggested on this
list that possibley you could get orca to work with skype web
stuff. they suggested spoofing the user agent but i can't seem to find
the entry fields in about:config or what ever that was i get them
confiused lol.....

what i'm having trouble with is it gives a huge list of variables etc it
looks like. anyone have a suggestion for an easy way to set the
useragent string with skype? seems as though firefox gets the call but
doesn't actually let you know so it shows up as a missed call when the
person hangs up.

sorry for this being confusing. any ideas?
