Hi Kendall,
Compiz has a magnifier that allows to zoom in and out, the shortcuts can be set in the CCSM.
Just be aware that the default keyboard shortcut to start it which is <Super>m conflict a shortcut of the
Enhanced Zoom Desktop so if you need both tools you'll have to change one of them.
As a reminder, Compiz fits well with MATE, among others dektops.
KDE also has a magnifier, but its global accessibility is very poor. At least that's true for KDE4.
