Re: [orca-list] OT: Orbit Reader questions

yes the support is needed, there is no automatic mode for connecting
to laptop, desktop or smart phone. first you have to select what you
have to connect. like
for Android: Brailleback
for Windows: NVDA/Jaws
for MAC/IOS: voiceover
els it will not get to witch device have to pair.
don't know about orbit reader20 but in Braill Me there are option like this:
in USB mode:
Connect to NVDA
Connect to Voiceover
Connect as mass storage
in Bluetooth mode:
Brailleback
Voiceover.
here you have to select NVDA if you want to connect to your Windows Desktop.
same applise for the others.
please check if in Orbit reader 20 has auto scroll feature.
In Braille Me it is there.
so you don't need to press keys always to change line wile reading a
file. and you can select time for auto scrolling.
hope it will help.
forgive me if I have not understand your question and let me know so I
will try to clear my selph.

Does support need to be explicitly added for *Orca*, though? brltty is
mentioned in the docs as being supported under Android, and there's an
emulation mode that can be used until explicit support is added, albeit
sacrificing a couple cells.

And I'm still unclear as to whether continuous read works in standalone
mode, since I can imagine many cases where I'd just want to read
something on the display without fumbling with a phone or another
device. If continuous read isn't supported, how big of a deal is it to
manually advance the display? Significant annoyance, or something you
start doing subconsciously after a bit of practice?

Thanks.

I don't think that is there any support has bin added for Orca
but if you don't care of jaws support then you can go for Braille Me
it also have the cursor routing keys for easy navigation and edeting.
this is the same device like orbit reader 20. comes with lesser prise
then orbit.
in India it is for about Rupees 25000
in next few months company will be adding support for Orca with USB
and Bluetooth connectivity.
If you really want this device then contact me personally.

Sorry to go a bit off-topic, but I had a quick question and didn't want
to join another list to ask it.

I think some folks here have experience with the $500 Orbit Reader 20?
I've been thinking of picking one up for use with Linux and Android, but
also as a standalone reader.

In standalone mode, is there any kind of continuous read functionality
that scrolls the display through files at a specific interval? If not,
how annoying does it get to advance the cursor line-by-line to read
something?

And to make things a bit more topical, how well does it work with
Orca/Android? I understand it isn't a $2000 device and will have
compromises, but is it worth $500 to have access to Braille with its
limitations (no cursor routing keys, for instance?)

Thanks.
