Mint makes two versions of mate, one is mint-mate and the other is
mint-lmde. The difference between those two is mit-mate uses ubuntu but
mint-lmde does not. Mint-lmde is a backout in the event ubuntu ever goes
away. Mint-lmde uses debian stuff.

This is really good information.
However I am still curious as to what is different in terms of
experience while using Ubuntu-mate VS Mint-mate?

I can echo that. Accidentally ended up with Cinnamon once, and
couldn't really use it at all. It was junk for a blind guy, and
simply couln't nagivate it.
If you give linux Mint a try, make sure you install MATE edition.
It's excellent and very accessible.
1. Once booted from USB, hit Ctrl+Alt+T for terminal then type "orca"
to start orca. Installer icon is on the desktop, and works fine the
whole way through via screen reader.
2. Orca then starts at boot, but I also just add an icon to the
desktop as well. If ever needed or Orca turns off, it's Ctrl+Alt+D to
get to desktop, I know Orca is second icon from the top, and that's
it.
I don't know, but I'm a huge Linux Mint fan and couln't think of using
anything different. It's like a really nice PC version of Ubuntu,
which is great as it's both user friendly and basically same as an
Ubuntu server which is what every server I manage and develop for is.

I have used mint cinnamon and mint xfce with orca and earlier mint lmde
with orca. It is possible starting the whisker menu with the start key
and tabbing and down arrowing around in there to find settings manager in
xfce. Once you run settings manager you land in a search box. If you
type accessibility into that box and hit enter you get put into an
assistive technology frame with one checkbox which is unchecked. If you
check that checkbox and then exit out and restart mint xfce orca comes on
to log you in then orca dies. You have to run orca again to get it up for
the session after logging in. Similar behavior happens on mate cinnamon.
It could be something is in the orca desktop file to cause this behavior
by default.

Hello, I am using Mint Mate 20.1 with Orca screenreader. It is a bit
simular
to Ubuntu Mate but it has only one bottom bar and the snap feature is not
enabled. I don't need the snap service and so I can handle Mint Mate like
a
normal Ubuntu system. The app settings programs are own programs by the
Mint
developers. Sometimes it seems to be necessary to work with flat review in
the software administration programs.
