Hello,

After few nights good sleep I think that most of date (duration) input 
dialogs should accept GNU Date format 
<http://www.gnu.org/software/tar/manual/html_chapter/tar_7.htm>

So you could end up writing dates like this (eg. for end date):

"10 September 2000"
"+1 day"
"+1 week"
"+1 week 2 days 4 hours 2 seconds"
"next Thursday"
"last Monday"

That would satisfy most of needs, you could enter exact date, or you 
could enter duration.
