First, if I open planner, go straight to the calendar editor and set
weekend days as work days, the grey bars disappear. But that's not
really the way it should be done.

Create a resource, edit it and make it use the travel calendar with no
weekends. Then assign the tasks to this resource. The task should be
"worked on" even on grey days.
