I'd echo that. I've just left a comment at:
https://blogs.oracle.com/solarisfoss/selected-foss-evaluation-packages-january-2017
I believe I raised it in their irc room and will follow-up the "Disappearing
Packages" thread in their ng. I'm sorry that one of the libraries it uses has
now become deprecated. It wasn't put as the argument for pulling Planner,
but I could imagine that it might be a problem for commercial unices to be
beholden to obsoleted libraries to support FOSS packages.
Perhaps those of us not capable of contributing to Planner's development can
at least support by getting the Mark Twain message about Planner out there;
that reports of its death are greatly exaggerated.

I just want to express my satisfaction with the fact that the project is
still maintained, and there are enthusiastic people willing to improve it!
Alexánder Alzate Olaya, English isn't my native language either, and I'm
not very experienced with this type of projects too. But I doubt that
the language may be "a wall" if the recipient is willing to listen and
understand, and ask if something is unclear. Although I think I can
understand you without problems. Yet lack of experience is only a matter
of experience ;)
Finally, it seems like Planner just doesn't have an alternative now: I
searched for them a while ago and it wasn't very successful. If
modernizing it is a hard problem, at least minor improvements may be
done, and eventually they may lead to a bigger changes!
I cannot promise that *I* personally will be doing all these minor
improvements or research, but at least I can keep an eye on these efforts.
Good luck!

Hello all,
Hi!
I would like to know what is the state of the project right now? and
how could I help you? maybe doing some research, etc.
I think the correct adjective currently is dormant. There is a lot to
do to bring the project back to a good shape and some of it is quite
difficult to do. The main blocker is that Planner relies on
libgnomecanvas to draw its Gantt chart. It has been deprecated for a
while and thereâs no drop in replacement so we have to figure out a
way forward. This blocks port to GTK+3 (and eventually 4).
If you do have time for research, maybe you could investigate writing
a custom set of widgets to draw Gantt charts. That means that for
instance each rectangle that represents a task would be a widget.
Would you be interested in prototyping this? For now you could use any
language, but long term the optimal solution would use C so that we
can then use those widgets from other languages.
I found that the code has errors in compilation process and Autotools
scripts could be refactorized. Is it worth if I send you some patches
for revision? I've never been in a open source project and I don't have
the needed experience, but I want you to teach me and improve my
programmer skills while contributing to this amazing project.
Sure, you can send us patches for review (on bugzilla preferrably). If
Iâm being completely honest with you, the project may not be the best
for a newcomer given the state I talked about above, but if you want
to contribute despite this youâre more than welcome!
Maybe the language is a wall for me to communicate to you my thoughts,
since English is not my mother lang and I'm a self-thought person, even
for programming. But I hope with your guidance I'll improve even my
English skills.
Heh, donât worry about it, your English is fine! Most of us arenât
native English speakers as well, weâre all learning here.
Cheers,
