Help with compiling pygobject/pygtk

I have the need to install pygobject and pygtk from source to a python
build in a non-standard location.  What would the installation method
look like in this instance.

IE:

python home is /soft/python/2.7.6

I have tried ./configure --prefix=/soft/python/2.7.6 && make &&
install but for some reason pygtk always fails to find pygobject.h
