I'll write a little something in Python to provide remote control through
the CORBA interface. That should also allow for a fuller set of remote
control functions. The CORBA interface works very well:

bonobo.activation.activate_from_id("OAFIID:GNOME_Rhythmbox")[0].playPause()

and it seems there's also a LIRC binding for Python. Maybe I'll add some
huge display of the function being executed that can be seen from
across the room. That should keep Rhythmbox clean and yet remote
control-friendly.
