You could check with gupnp-dlna-info -v on a working and a non-working
file if there are any obvious differences.

That usually works, but might be caused by transcoding. The player could
misinterpret some of the flags. Do you perhaps get an error like in this
bug: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=665476
