alternative workspace switchers

hi,

having just ditched gnome-session for a leaner xsession-based 
environment i'm curious if there's any alterative to the gnome-panel's 
workspace switcher applet.

ideally it'd be clickable to switch workspace, but even a viewer would 
be useful.

would such a program need to be sawfish specific? from looking at 
libwnck it looks as if these are abstracted WM operations.

sorry if this is a FAQ, google gets distracted by all the gnome-related 
posts.
