Currently, pam_authenticate gets called only when a user moves the
mouse or keyboard while the screen is locked.
I don't see what's to be gained by doing this, and the possibility of
combining modules which lock a user out after a given number of failed
attempts (pam_tally) with modules for which timing is important makes me
think it's a bad idea.
This request came from people who use modules with external devices like
smartcards and who thought just inserting the smartcard or activating the
device should start the authentication process, not just moving the mouse
or keyboard.
Perhaps if DBUS allows those modules to kick the screensaver to start the
authentication without mouse/keyboard, it would be an acceptable compromise.
