[Straw] Re-Indexing

I guess this is basically a question for Jan or Juri. Going to throw
it out here before putting it in to a bug.
So, it seems pretty regularly straw locks up on me. I did some
investigating and it seems like it is re-indexing it's DB or
something.
If I look in my .straw directory I see it adding lots of 1M files named:
log.0000131242
with the number incrementing on each file. It will add a few hundred
of these and then go back to just one. This process takes a while and
while locking up straw also slows my machine down pretty good (as it's
doing a ton of disk access).
Any ideas of what this is and if there is some way we could have it
happen a lot less often?
