[Usability] Gnome and NIS woes

Hi all,
I have NIS on Solaris, when trying to
log into a RedHat Linux system with an NIS account the window comes up
blank, local accounts have no problem.  After changing my NIS account
default shell to BASH the problem went away, but our company default shell
setting is KSH.  Any help would be appreciated.
