Compiling problems on Debian

I've recently tried to install gnome on my Debian box (following the
order in the Tarball installtion document) and everything compilies until
I get to mc-4.5.29. It stops here:

cc -c -I.. -I./.. -I../slang -I./../vfs -I./../slang -I..
-DBINDIR=\""/usr/local/bin/"\" -DLIBDIR=\""/usr/local/lib/mc/"\"
-DICONDIR=\""/usr/local/share/pixmaps/mc/"\"
-DLOCALEDIR=\""/usr/local/share/locale/"\" -DCONFDIR=\""/usr/local/etc/"\"
-DDESKTOP_INIT_DIR=\""/usr/local/lib/mc/desktop-scripts/"\" -I./../vfs
-DHAVE_X -DHAVE_GNOME -I/usr/local/include -DNEED_GNOMESUPPORT_H
-I/usr/local/lib/gnome-libs/include -I/usr/local/lib/glib/include
-I/usr/X11R6/include -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -g -g -I/usr/local/lib/glib/include
-I/usr/local/include -I. -I./../src gcorba.c
gcorba.c:31: parse error before `POA_GNOME_FileManagerWindow'
gcorba.c:31: warning: no semicolon at end of struct or union
gcorba.c:35: parse error before `}'
...

I've tried reconfiguring it with --disable-nls and other stuff but it
always fails here. I then decided to skip this package and attempt
gnome-network, gnome-admin, etc. but those failed as well.

(Hm, maybe my patched slack machine wasn't so bad afterall...)
