gnome-linuxconf

I use linuxconf with the gnome/gtk gui on a RedHat 5.2 Gnome 1.0 Pentium
300 MHz with 64MB ram.
When I open several tabs in linxconf, the system gets very slow and is
swapping a lot. The gnome-linuxconf asks for a huge of ram. When a
classical gui interface, everything works fine. An idea?
