I get the same thing.  ATerm works fine, though - imagine that.  What is
your "TERM" env set to?

$ echo $TERM

It's probably set to 'xterm', as it should be.  Do: "export TERM=vt220".
Fixes the problem for me, but you probably won't want to export all the
time.
