Kate makes use of kioslaves, the KDE equivalent of gnome-vfs. mounting nfs shares, or samba shares they would look like they were local to all apps, with no gnome-vfs requirement. screem and bluefish (and gedit) use gnome-vfs to access remote files yes, gedit is just cautious about what it allows to save to. > one question beside.
