Hi Derek - You sound a lot like me a couple of months ago. I was kinda frustrated because I didn't really like the way that KDE was going and I didn't like the things I thought GNOME lacked. On top of that, I have pretty limited experience coding in C/C++ and next to zero familiarity with the GNOME libraries, so I couldn't exactly help the coding effort. So I joined the Usability project. I give my $0.02 on topics as they come up here. I contribute in consistent, small amounts rather than in single rants. And I make sure my voice is heard, at least on some small level. And I too am disappointed with some of the configurability of RH8, particularly things like the difficulty of rearranging menu items. But GNOME 2 is making progress. And I'm sure some medium will be struck between the "one-size fits all" and the "so configurable that it's unconfigurable". For example, I too miss Sawfish and am disappointed with Metacity, but I'm glad to see that Sawfish is being actively developed again. I guess what I'm trying to say in the big picture is that rants like this are not the most effective way to bring about the changes you wish to see. If I were one of those who devoted so much of my time towards the development of a free project and received a rant telling me how everything I was doing was wrong, I'd be less than receptive.
