hi,

i just woke up and scanned my mails. well what a huge thread came out of
this. but i see it differently than you. he exactly summarized in one
perfect written mail what many people really think outside. many people
as in 'what i read on many mailinglists, what i heard from many people
by having private conversations etc.' there have been a bunch and i
would say it wasn't a short amount of people that exactly pointed
similar things on all kind of places.

call me a ranting one but i totally agree to his points. not necesarrily
all of them but most of them. look as havoc once replied to me. he wants
to get out of the 0.05% market niche with GNOME. now look 95% of the
desktop market belongs to microsoft the final 5% to the other desktop
operating systems like BeOS, AmigaOS, MacOS, QNX etc. you don't need a
diploma to understand this.

now turning GNOME into MacOS (what they actually are doing) is not the
right way. it may look good for many people but at the final end, which
users are you trying to reach with that ? for the 95% of Microsoft many
people would probably switch to KDE as soon as they see it and make it
look like Windows 2000 or XP which can be done within 10 seconds (at
least i assume this only but the functionality is cool and in some
places better than on Microsoft products.)

but on the otherhand you can count yourself. these 95% have choosen
Microsoft products to get work done otherwise they have decided to use
MacOS. If I would been asked today what to use then i would tell them
Windows because to get work done. A MacOS based system would probably
cover dust within one week here.

i would really like to quote comment some of his previous points, like
configuration systen, button reordering... but i think that i heavily
made my point clear in previous mails. so i keep shut here.
