[Usability]Space between labels and controls

I was reading through the HIG and noticed that figure 8.4 recommends a
12 pixel gap between a control and its label. Then in the Spacing and
Alignment subsection of the Text Labels section it recommends 6. 

I understand that things should be done in multiples of 6, but this
seems like perhaps just an oversight since these two items seem to be
talking about the same thing.

Can anyone clear this up for me please? Thanks.
