Or a folder containing a bunch of launcher files (no need for nasty new
URIs, and standard file tools can be used)

but yeah I had a similar feeling in case I didn't make it clear in my
previous post

Like I said the notion of treating everything as a file is a very powerful
one which continues to be applicable.  making things work in a generic and
consistent way has interesting implications and makes any new tools much
more reusable instead of having to implement applications specific search
tools each time.
