Do we really need threads in SMTP?

Hi all

I have been looking at the code for SMTP and I have come to the conclusion that
using threads makes it messy and really dificult to mantein and debug.

I was thinking about using a library call gnet wich uses non-bloking socket so
we won´t need to use threads. 

What do you all think ??
