not always... sometimes its also the font itself that you are
using that cause the problem for not showing certain chars. i
had that issue not long ago myself, not that i forgot to export
all LANG variables correctly nope, the reason was just the font
that didn't support the chars IMAGE in XCHAT, i just changed the
font that supports umlaut/accent.
