Bug#190847: balsa: Balsa locks up - no buttons do anything and windows not re-drawn

I can be using balsa quite happily one minute and then it suddenly
locks up and won't respond any more.  This has happenned when typing
in the mail compose window, and when checking for new mail.

In an attempt to work out where it was stuck I enabled core-dumps and
sent a locked instance of balsa the SIGQUIT signal.  Here is the
