We need a way to release bug-fixes for pre-Gtk-2.4 users, and  
2.2.7 etc. is the obvious way to do it.  So a new series  
(2.3?)depending on GTK+ >= 2.4 is the cleaner way to go, probably  
with a quick transition to a stable 2.4.
