Yes, to look up cddb info, its basically a big hashtable where the key
is an acoustic hash of the cd or something.

The data on the cd itself, check out banshee from CVS, the notable files
are in banshee/src/MusicBrainz. Check out SimpleDiscTest.cs and
SimpleDisc.cs. They use libbanshee's gstreamer/musicbrainz bindings to
get the CD's Table of Contents. The ToC is what is sent to the
musicbrainz server to try and determine album info. We could just use
the ToC on our own in some manner.
