on hopefully last thing:
On http://www.gnome.org/~jdub/garnome/ there is the info:
" tweak the settings in gar.conf.mk [...] FILE_SITES: If you've
downloaded alpha 2 already, include a link to the files here."

And in gar.conf.mk: 
# prepend the local file listing
FILE_SITES = file://$(FILEDIR)/

Hmmm, the format I'm supposed to use is completely unclear to me. Could
you specify? Thanks a lot
