	* the user should be able to input a regexp and get the presented
	  file list filtered accordingly
	* the application can present a list of regexps (preferably with
	  descriptions) that it expects the user to want to open

It is pretty easy to want to have the the ability to need for the latter -
just consider the open dialog for eog.
