First, could you refrain from posting in HTML, please :))

Second, you are talking about GNOME 2.2 but you comment on RPMdrake,
which is a Mandrake only tools, not related in any way with GNOME
(except it uses GTK..).. 

RPMdrake is still using GTK+1.2 because it is written in perl-GTK and
this binding hasn't been ported on GTK+2.0 yet.. 

Creating a package manager for everybody is a tricky job, because not
all package managers have the same goal :

-RPMdrake must not depend on other librairies than GTK+, (as all
Mandrake tools) because we don't want to force non-GNOME users folks to
install GNOME libraries. Moreover, RPMdrake UI has been redesigned in
Mandrake 9.0 because it was extremely hard to use for newbies and wasn't
using all the features from our package manager (urpmi).

-RedCarpet is more channel subscription oriented (from what I recall
from last time I tested RC), based on informations available on external
server (from what I recall from last time I tested RC). And since RC
needs to be as distro agnostic as possible, it doesn't use distro
specific features (I don't think it uses APT on Debian, nor URPMI on
Mandrake..)

I could continue on other available package manager but I think you see
my point now..
