I have heard arguments from both sides, some good, some not so good, but every one has his point.

Can the pro-~/Desktop people argue against this?

Will nautilus lose my icons every time I log with a different locale? Will nautilus force me to see an english "Desktop" folder on my home? why? some sort of symlink? other solutions?

No! simpler, cleaner, I10n friendly, $HOME as desktop !!!
