Actually, I think that is a fairly unusual situation, and one that is
confusing to people when it happens, because they suddenly have to
choose between 2 sets of changes to save, and have to deal with losing
one set of changes, with no way to make the decision.

At the least, I think an application should offer to simply reshow the
already-open application. Then people would not get into that situation.

I think that MacOS (Classic, at least) does this spatial document thing,
and I always found it very comfortable. There was usually a way to work
around it when you really really wanted to open a document in 2 windows.
